On Wednesday,
April 8th, 2009, our very own Founder of Special Blessings,
Roxanne Sinsapaugh and her son, Shaun, appeared on the 6:00 Evening News.
WTVD, ABC 11 News, reporter Shae Crisson, did a story on the New Director of Mental Health,
Mr. Luckey Welsh. The story centered on Abuse and Neglect in state run facilities and the
need for positive change in our system. Eight years ago, Roxanne’s son, Shaun, fell
victim to neglect at a state run facility. Since that time, she has been advocating for change so that others may receive
better care. Roxanne recently turned to the media with Shaun's story after
hearing a news report that a Severe/Profound, Developementally Disabled girl had been
left unattended for over an hour in her wheelchair. She slid forward in her chair strangling herself
to death on the cord. Her records show that she was Not to be Left alone as she had
a tendancy to slip in her chair. This occured at the same facility where Shaun had been 8 years earlier.
